Magazine editing and design layout hold a special place in my heart. I love to design, design and redesign magazine spreads. While at Northwestern University, I served as the Print Managing Editor and a designer for North by Northwestern Magazine, where I managed a complete redesign of our publication and called for increased coverage on minority and marginalized groups on campus. After spending hours and hours toiling over Adobe InDesign, the results were gratifying and can be seen in the Fall 2016 Issue below.
As the Editor-in-Chief of Al Bayan Magazine for three years in a row, I also headed a redesign of our magazine and placed a large emphasis on our photography, as it would play a significant role in telling the stories, true stories, of the Muslim population all around the world and on campus. I designed a majority of the magazine, specifically pages 2 through 4 and 6 through 28.
For both magazines, the content was complex. The design simple, leaving the readers to personally connect with the text and lines thoughtfully laid out on the pages. For both, I embraced a style of minimalism and made it my mission to ensure every design and portion of white space was pronounced with a purpose.
